pumpkins in polytunnel Generations have tended the walled kitchen garden and the flower garden since the days of much-loved Rector John Fanshawe who laid out the gardens in the mid-18th Century.  Recently Phil Sumption has managed the conversion of the vegetable garden to organic which enables him to sell the freshest produce to the shop – we measure food miles in metres and aim for the shortest time between growing and appearing on the dinner table.  We are also restoring the orchard as part of the Stewardship Scheme, which includes planting traditional varieties and replacing trees which were lost when the bypass was built. The fruit will also be registered organic by next year.
Tours of the garden take place on the special shop ‘Feast’ days, at Easter, in the summer and for Organic Week in September, or by special request for groups of 8 or more as part of the Educational Access Scheme.
